Tubular Cast Off
A tubular cast off produces a neat and professional finish for 1x1 ribbing.

Step 1: Start by working set up rows as follows. The row/round should begin with a knit stitch.
If working flat:
Row 1: * knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, repeat from * to end
Row 2: Repeat row 1
If working in the round:
Round 1: * knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, repeat from * to end
Round 2: * slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back, purl 1, repeat from * to end
If working flat:
Row 1: * knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, repeat from * to end
Row 2: Repeat row 1
If working in the round:
Round 1: * knit 1, slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, repeat from * to end
Round 2: * slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back, purl 1, repeat from * to end
Step 2: Slip the first knit stitch purlwise onto the working needle
Step 3: Take a spare needle and slip the next purl stitch onto the spare needle.
Continue in this way across the row/round slipping the knit stitches onto the working needle and the purl stitches onto the spare needle.

Step 4: Cut the yarn, leaving a tail that is approximately three times the length of the edge. Use kitchener stitch to graft the two sets of stitches.
