Cable Cast On

The cable cast on is a simple way to cast on stitches and creates a firm, neat edge. It can also be used to cast on stitches in the middle of a row.
To work a cable cast cast on:​
Step 1: Start by making a slip knot and placing it on the left needle.

Step 2: Insert the right needle knitwise into the loop and wrap the working yarn around the needle

Step 3: Pull the yarn through the loop to create a stitch

Step 4: Place the stitch onto the left needle

Step 5: Insert the right needle knitwise behind the previous stitch (i.e. between the two stitches on the needle). Wrap the working yarn around the needle​

Step 6: Pull the yarn through to create a stitch and place it onto the left needle​

Repeat steps 5-6 until the desired number of stitches has been cast on. ​

To cast on stitches in the middle of a row: Turn your work so that the wrong side is facing you, then work steps 5-6 until the desired number of stitches has been cast on. Turn work back to continue along the row.
